Welcome to American Student Radio, a national radio station and a national classroom. ASR
was founded in September 2011 at the Indiana University School of Journalism by IU School
of Journalism Interim Dean Dr. Michael Evans and Visiting Lecturer Sarah Neal-Estes to give students across the country the ability to make a positive difference in the world with fair, respectful and honest journalism. As an organization, ASR will make a place for:
- Seek the truth and report it- We strive for honesty, fairness and openness. We never publish inflammatory statements. We always seek the best expert. We do not favor a source over another for personal reasons. We do not stereotype. We report relevant sides to the best of our ability.
- Do no harm- We make a concerted effort to be positive. We are not purposefully combative for the sake of being combative. We do good. We are compassionate. We are not a tabloid.
- Act Independently- Our content is created for students by students. We stay free from conflicts of association. If an association cannot be avoided, we fully disclose it. We hold sources and subjects accountable at all times.
- Be Accountable- We are students and professionals. We owe it to our listeners to report stories accurately. If a mistake is published, we swiftly correct it.
